Please refer to the printed "User Guide" for Star Warped instructions. Also, please refer to the printed "Online Guide" for details on configuring Star Warped to launch your browser and going online to the Star Warped web site. System Requirements ==================== To run Star Warped, your Windows PC must have at least: - A 66 MHz 486 processor (Pentium processor recommended) - 8 MB RAM for Windows 3.1x (16 MB recommended) or 16 MB RAM for Windows 95 - 10 MB free hard disk space - A double speed CD-ROM (quad speed recommended) - SVGA video (640x480 resolution with 256 colors) - QuickTime 2.1.2 (supplied on the CD-ROM) or later - 8-bit sound To connect to the Star Warped web site, you must also have: - A 14.4 Kbps modem (28.8 Kbps recommended) - Netscape Navigator version 2.0 or later, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later - A subscription to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), or America Online 3.0 or later Troubleshooting =============== Video, Animation and Sound: If you are experiencing problems with video, animation or sound: 1. Set your monitor graphics mode to display 640x480 resolution with 256 colors. 2. Before running Star Warped, exit all running programs, including those that run automatically when you start Windows (such as screen savers and toolbars). 3. Computers with slower components (66 MHz 486's, 60 MHz Pentiums, 2X CD-ROM drives) or smaller memories (8 MB RAM) may exhibit poor audio/video performance and long delays (loads) between screens. 4a. For Windows 95 users: If you don't see the opening Star Warped title video, you may not have QuickTime for Windows (QTW) installed, or could be running an older or 16-bit version. You can check to see if you have QTW installed and your QTW version number. From the Start menu, select Programs, QuickTime for Windows, "QuickTime Read Me 32-bit." If you don't see the "32-bit" suffix, you have 16-bit QTW installed. The 32-bit Star Warped program (normally used with Win 95 systems) requires 32-bit QTW, version 2.1.2 (or later), which is included on the CD-ROM. To install this version, select Run from the Start menu, and then click the Browse button. Select your CD-ROM drive, open the Qtime folder and run the file QT32INST.EXE. If you have a version earlier than 2.1.2, uninstall it beforehand, or choose to delete it when prompted by the QTW installer. Installing 32-bit QTW will not delete nor interfere with an installed version of 16-bit QTW. DO NOT install an earlier version of QTW over a later version. 4b. For Windows 3.1x users: If you don't see the opening Star Warped title video, you may not have Quicktime for Windows (QTW) installed, or could be running an older version. You can check to see if you have QTW installed and your QTW version number. From the Program Manager, open the QuickTime for Windows program group and double- click the "QuickTime Read Me" file. The 16-bit Star Warped program (normally used with Win 3.1 systems) requires 16-bit QTW, version 2.1.2 (or later), which is included on the CD-ROM. To install this version, select Run from the Program Manager File menu, and then click the Browse button. Select your CD-ROM drive, open the Qtime folder and run the file QTINSTAL.EXE. If you have a version earlier than 2.1.2, uninstall it beforehand, or choose to delete it when prompted by the QTW installer. DO NOT install an earlier version of QTW over a later version. 5. For Windows 95 users: Some video chips, boards and drivers (such as STB boards utilizing the S3 Virge 3D chip) don't work well with 32-bit QTW. If your QuickTime movie video tend to skip, stutter or break up, you should try installing the 16-bit version of Star Warped. From the Start menu, select Settings, Control Panels, Add/Remove Programs and remove Star Warped. Then reinstall 16-bit Star Warped, which also installs 16-bit QTW. 6. If your QuickTime movie sound tends to skip, stutter or play at the wrong speed, open the QuickTime control panel. For Windows 95 users, from the Start menu, select Settings, Control Panel, QuickTime; and for Windows 3.1x users, from the Program Manager, open the Main program group, open Control Panels, and double click the QuickTime icon. Then click the "More" button at the bottom right and then the "Audio" tab at the top left. Set "Requested Hz" to "Actual Hz", and uncheck the "Automatic Rate Adjustment" box. Then click the "Close" button at the bottom. Going Online: If you have trouble visiting the Star Warped web site from within the Star Warped program: 1. Run Browser Setup to configure Star Warped to launch your browser. 2. Make sure that your browser and dialer are configured to connect to your ISP, then try launching your browser to a well-known web page BEFORE running Star Warped and going online. If you don't see the web page (make sure it's not "cached" on your hard drive), call your ISP for support. If you do see the web page, try launching your browser to http://www.parroty.com next. If you can't enter the Parroty site, our web server may be busy or unavailable, so please try again later. 3. You must run Browser Setup after installing the AT&T Worldnet browser, or any updated browser you choose to install later. 4. On Windows 95, Browser Setup will not find 16-bit versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Microsoft does not support running 16-bit Internet Explorer under WIndows 95. Other: 1. Win 95 allows you to run multiple copies of programs. Make sure that you are running only one copy of Star Warped. 2. Uninstalling Star Warped will not delete the Parroty and Star Warped folders, as well as any user created files (PD.INI, *.USR). If you reinstall Star Warped, your browser and user tracking information will remain intact. To completely remove all traces of Star Warped, delete these folders and files manually. 3. Be careful not to click your right mouse button while running Star Warped. Clicking the right mouse button may disable the next left mouse button click. 4. Be careful not to move the cursor to the extreme top or bottom of the screen. This action may activate any toolbars you may use (such as the Microsoft Office toolbar), and deactivate the Star Warped program.
